Cloud9 Bids Farewell to Rocket League Team | Cloud9

Cloud9 Article By John Nomis|10 June, 2020

Cloud9 is announcing today the departure of our Rocket League team. Kyle Torment Storer, Jesus Gimmick Parra, and Coach Jayson Fireburner Nunez have been released, and Mariano SquishyMuffinz Arruda will be joining NRG Esports. The entire organization would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all members of the Rocket League team for their efforts and the incredible things they achieved while representing Cloud9.

Success came quickly after the team formerly known as The Muffin Men joined C9. Within a week of joining the organization, the team came out victorious at CyberPowerPC EGS – Summer 2017. It would be a sign of things to come, as the team surprised everyone and went on to secure a 6-1 record and 1st-place finish in RLCS Season 4 – North America, cementing themselves as a perennial contender.

After a victory at the Northern Arena Rocket League Invitational and a 3rd-place finish at the RLCS Season 4 – Finals to end 2017, the team found continued success in 2018. In the month of August alone, the team brought home victories at the Rival Esports: Summer Open 2018 and the Rocket League Universal Open: Season 2. These victories would serve as the prelude to the team’s greatest triumph. Going up against a previously undefeated Dignitas at the RLCS Season 6 Finals, the team shocked the world with back to back 4-1 victories on their way to being crowned world champions. 2019 also brought success with it, as the team went on to win at DreamHack Pro Circuit: Dallas 2019.

“I’m so proud of everything C9 Rocket League achieved during their time with us. They’ve proven themselves on the biggest stage by bringing home the RLCS trophy and I have no doubt that they’ll be pulling off more highlight-reel moves soon. Everyone here will miss them and we thank them for being such an incredible part of Cloud9.”

–Jack Etienne, Cloud9 CEO & Co-Founder

We would also like to thank the incredible fans who supported Cloud9 Rocket League over the years. You helped make every moment that much more memorable, and we’re grateful to have shared these successes with you.
